Overview:
West Contra Costa County educators, civic leaders, mental health
professionals and residents established Familias Unidas in 1979. The
founders of our nonprofit organization envisioned a "community
counseling and information center" helping people in a holistic and
			culturally appropriate manner.

Our programs use the “Health Model” to provide preventive health
education and outreach, psychosocial case management support and
psychotherapy. We strive to integrate individual, family and
community to our treatment plans to increase the well being,
empowerment, and self-sufficiency of our clients.

Our service approach is based on the premise of “La Cultura Cura”
(recognition and validation of the inherent ability and power of
individual’s cultural values to sustain and heal). This approach
includes the operating principles of “Conocimiento” (knowledge of
the persons served) including the cultural diversity of Latinos, “Confianza”
(building trust) with Latinos at risk, and “Unidad” (the unification
of families and communities) that will enhance the movement towards
needed change and “Poder” or empowerment.
